Teacher faces sex charge; ‘Victim’ 14 years old

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. —An Upstate teacher is facing charges of criminal sexual conduct with a 14-year-old.

According to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, Courtney Clark Kay, 29, of Spartanburg, was charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor.

The investigation started Jan. 30, when the 14-year-old’s parent suspected there had been some inappropriate Facebook communication between her son and his science teacher at Spartanburg High School Freshmen Academy, said deputies.

According to deputies, officials with the Spartanburg School District 7 were also notified of the parent’s complaint.

They confronted Kay, and she resigned her teaching position the same day, Jan. 30, after admitting she knew she had violated district policy regarding fraternization with students, said deputies.

As the investigation progressed, it was discovered that there had also been some inappropriate touching between this student and Kay, said deputies.

According to deputies, the touching happened on school property.

Investigators interviewed Kay on Friday and after several hours, Kay has confessed to the majority of her victim’s allegations, said deputies.

An investigator with the Special Victims Unit presented the findings of the investigation to a magistrate judge, who issued a warrant on Kay for criminal sexual conduct with a minor-third degree.

Kay was transported to the Sheriff’s Office Detention Facility Friday night.

Question: The “communication”….was it one-sided?  Who initiated? Was the touching mutual?

I agree, on school property is wrong.  But you have to ask the questions, unless…of course…you’re afriad of the answers….
